Check out the new Fence & Post restaurant in Cochrane. Only 15 mins from northwest Calgary. Chris Hartman and Melanie Martzoukos and the new crew behind the place. Great warm friendly place with some killer food. They have a wine and beverage list that compliments the local food, a great way to look at a menu.
By far my new favorite place in Calgary these days is the little wine bar, Bar Von Der Fels. The place has the feeling of stepping into a little wine bar in Paris, where it’s all about the great food and great wine. This is a small place in Calgary seating maybe 30 people, packed, but so worth it. Great atmosphere, incredibly tasty food and wonderful service, what else do you need. If you’re downtown check it out.
I was lucky last week and got an assignment to photograph the newly minted Deane House in Calgary for the Globe and Mail. Chef Jamie Harling is cooking up a storm there using local Alberta ingredients; and the bread he bakes is simply amazing! Owner Sal Howell, who also owns The River Cafe has done an incredible job of the place and I plan to be there as a guest soon. I am a huge fan of great local food, prepared and presented well. Check out the Globe’s review of the place here. If your in town or traveling through, do yourself a favour and check it out.
With the warm weather hitting southern Ontario, I drove up to the Bruce Peninsula for the weekend and stayed at the Henry Air BnB . Although the landscape is still dry and brown; the sun and blue skies made up for the cool spring weather in the air. I toured the Coffin Ridge Winery with views of Georgian Bay, Owen Sound and the South Bruce Peninsula. A great weekend for a road tour out of Toronto.
